Since the publication of The Fix Is In, I've contributed as a writer to a variety of outlets. Unfortunately with the ever-changing media landscape, these writing gigs all had a short shelf life. Sports on Earth was co-owned by USA Today
and Major League Baseball Adanced Media (MLBAM). When the USA Today
decided to pull its funding for the site, MLBAM laid off 95 percent of Sports on Earth's workforce. And even though Vice media has rapidly expanded, in 2017 it shut the doors on Vice Sports. In this case, 100 percent of the staff was released. Welcome to the wonderful world of freelance journalism. That's why I'm sticking to books. No one can fire me from writing what I want.
